yahoo3.gif
Microsoft has made a very generous bid to buy the ailing Yahoo. AP wire reported that a $31 per share offer was made by Microsoft to purchase Yahoo Internet search engine. This is an enormous premium over what Yahoo’s stock closed yesterday.

Yahoo has seen their stock sinking over the last year and this could be some great news for them.

jerrybill.jpg
Yahoo CEO Jerry Yang (L) and Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates in this composite image are the figureheads for the two companies involved in this deal that has been rumored for over a year. Microsoft on Friday, February 1st (4am PST) said it had offered to acquire Yahoo in a proposed cash and stock deal valued at $44.6 billion.

More to come on this Super Tech deal!

Swashbuckling Duels & Cinematic Animations make this a winner for Sony – Launching January 22, 2008

Did I mention this was a Hot Game?!

Ok, so we had a great (and an extremely busy) run at CES 2008 – the Consumer Electronics Show and then flew back to San Francisco (in our wonderful ECTV SUV) to make it just in time for MacWorld Expo. A tiny show compared to CES (the Mammoth of all Tradeshows) but what a great collection of Exhibitors showcasing some wonderful products both for Mac and Windows computers. Of course we will have much more for you to see on the CES & MacWorld fronts, but let me give you a glimpse of what you can expect from your Friends at the Event City Network.

My crew is telling me not to let the cat out of the bag quite yet (they want to have all the fun with these great upcoming industry events), so I will let them have at it. OK, but for now I’ll give you a couple of hints -

It’s a Photo-imagers Disneyland come the end of this month. Then sometime soon after you will have the opportunity to join us at this next show which is the CES for the Hospitality industry; one of the Event City Industries biggest and most illustrious Tradeshows ever! And finally – It’s Our party and we’ll cry if we want too, but just don’t miss all the great Halloween and Event industry products at this outrageous tradeshow. Industry insiders and surely many outsiders say of all tradeshows for all industries you will not have nearly as much fun as you will have at this upcoming Halloween and Party show in March 2008!

Keep your finger on the mouse and point it here for many updates on these “Must Do” tradeshows for the Events & Creative Industries(tm). We will keep you posted with all the details on these great shows.

Please don’t forget to comment with your questions, ideas and overall feedback on what we are doing for the Events & Creative Industries.

PMA Show in Las Vegas – Event City Creative Reporting

By Gordon Barbery, Reporter/Photographer – Event City Creative

Hot on the heals of CES, hi-tech marches on in Las Vegas. The next big tech show is coming to the Las Vegas Convention Center January 31 to February 2. It’s the fabulous 84th annual Photography Marketing Association Convention and Trade Show, PMA.

pma08_upcomingevents.gif

PMA is the leading international professional photography expo with an anticipated attendance of 20,000 to 24,000 professional photographers, school photography teachers, industrial photo technicians, and photo industry trade representatives from over 100 countries. Over 650 exhibitors are expected to settle into the Las Vegas Convention Center for the latest cutting edge products and services for bringing image information to the world. There will be camera companies, digital image centers, discount stores, photo printing companies, and so much more, in the large exhibition hall. The exhibitors are the companies that serve you the public and as well as the professional photographers who in turn also serve you. There will be computer companies and software application exhibitors, as well as a handful (or maybe more) of those wild “convention” parties. Of course I will report on them too!

Photography is such a broad commercial field serving everyone in the world. Consider, for example, the daily news and magazine photographers, Internet and TV image-makers who serve your daily diet of news, sports, and other entertainment images to support your grand personal world of reality and fantasy. Whether these folks are work-a-day stiffs or wild and crazy photographers, they will all be at the PMA International Convention and Trade Show.

Keep your mouse pointed to the Event City Creative Magazine site as I report here on all the new cameras, gismos, emerging photo technologies launches, and exhibitor’s will be announcing during the PMA Trade Show.

Great Emails and Comments from our Readers

Hello Everyone, thank you so much for your wonderful comments and the emails messages we have received, you are all so generous! Please as often as possible do leave comments here on our Magazine pages (our BlogaZine) as well as our Blogspace.com. It helps us to learn more about what you like and want to see us report on your industry.

Wow! I was really impressed by one comment left by Kimmy in Arizona. She can write. No, I don’t just mean she can write, but SHE-CAN-WRITE!! She certainly picked up some pointers from her Mom who’s a darn good writer herself and has previously penned some good pieces for us. But I would of never guessed – Kimmy.

I am very impressed and hope to see much more of her on here, and maybe we can entice her to write a few things on a more semi-professional level, what do you think Kimmy hunny???

Please do keep your eyes and mouse pointed to our space where your comments are always welcomed and your ideas greatly appreciated. I look forward to hearing from all of you often and soon.

Sooooo Many Vendors, So Little Time….

edifiernew-take-on-speakers.jpg

Hey from Day Three of the Giant CES. First, I mis-spoke/wrote the other day about the International Details…there are 140 countries represented here, not the 110 I previously reported. In addition to the languages I wrote about two days ago, I’d like to add Swedish, Finnish, many Chineese dialects, German, and a few unknown Central European tounges into the mix. And I have entered that “so when do I post?” zone….since once you’re on the floor you’re sucked in, and once you’re on the party bus (who says I’m just looking for free foood…?), you can’t get off. Last night we were in the press corps for the Monster Dealer Awards/Mary J Blige super show, AND the after party (hey, who ate all the food..??). Great event…great photos and even video to follow soon.

Some of the larger issues of the show have come to mind, and I will write about them in the next day or two. Basically, we have two worlds here …one for the dealers/resellers/distributors, and the other for us, the press– all wanting to see the same new stuff but for different reasons. I get the feeling that we are really part of “their” show, but we have very good accesss to be that electronic fly on the wall, and we need to sit down and share more of that with you. As long as we don’t miss the (yes, free) press lunch, so a few pictures up and I’m out the door.

The Big Thing at the show this year has been lurking around for years but now seems to be taking hold…that is the One Brand fits all approach that gives the user a seemless interface to all aspects of their computer/electronic experience, involving many devices across various platforms. Home/Mobile/Work/Play/PC, smart applications, mobile, auto (big thing this year with Microsoft), wireless. The studios (Fox, ABC, etc) also were here to sing the same song. Get ‘em everywhere and keep ‘em in the house. Of course those guys have the content, the manufactures have the devices, and we got the blog, so until tomorrow or later today if the party bus is late, I am your most trusted and loyal servant,

Mobile Mike Handler

Photographic Frame Milestones-Image Moments 8 by Digital Foci, Inc.

By NOLAN APOSTLE, Assoicate Editor/Producer

Where were you in ’62? Not sure? Oh, you weren’t born yet? Well then you probably didn’t know that in 1962 the Photographic “Frame” became a household name and reached a monumental milestone – selling more frames than there were people in the USA.

OK, so fast forward to 2008 today at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas and we have another monumental achievement happening. Digital Foci, Inc. www.digitalfoci.com announced that it has won The Professional Photographer 2008 “Hot One” Award for the “Image Moments 8” digital photo frame.

imt-081_front_black_l.jpgWinner for the second year in a row (the previous version of Image Moments IMT-081 won the 2007 Hot One Award), “Image Moments 8” (Model IMT-083) lets you display and share photos directly from digital camera memory cards at home or at the office on a selection of beautiful interchangeable picture frames. Just insert any digital camera memory card into the Image Moments frame and watch memories come to life in sharp, vibrant color on its big 8-inch high-resolution digital LCD screen.

Please keep your eyes peeled both here for udates on this product that myself and fellow Editors and writers just love and think this is a definite BUY NOW! We expect to have a review on the product coming soon here as well as a presentation of our CES “Photographic Collection” on Event City Live!.

This new version of the popular Image Moments digital frame now features an 8” high-resolution 800 x 600 digital LCD screen with 500:1 contrast ratio for superior picture quality. The unique proprietary Adapter Ring design supports limitless custom framing options — even your own custom frame. It also features an interchangeable mat with 3 color selections, a hinged memory card door to hide the cards from view for an elegant finish, and an easel leg for alternating between landscape and portrait positioning to make changing your home or office décor a snap.

On Image Moments 8, portrait photos are automatically rotated according to the EXIF data captured by the camera. In addition, the built-in auto-rotate orientation sensor automatically displays photos in the correct orientation according to the landscape or portrait orientation of the device.

Some other great new features include an automatic on/off timer, and advanced file management features. The folder structure lets you select specific folders to playback. You can also create, edit, and sequence multiple playlists directly on the device.

Wow, all that and you almost expect it to take the pictures for you too! I expect to do a nice feature on this and other similar products to help you be more productive both in business and in life.

Thank you for visiting the Event City Blogazine’s coverage at the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas where you’ll find almost 2 million square feet of space, 2700 exhibitors, and over 140,000 attendees seeking information on millions of products on display at this mammoth show.
