Obama makes Splash in New Mexico

The EventCity Press Pass has now officially been “Politically” de-virginized, as the US Secret Service approved my coverage at this event. I was originally issued our official pass at this year’s CES (Consumer Electronics Show), which we covered in Las Vegas.

I attended the Barack Obama rally today in Espanola, New Mexico. The small town north of Santa Fe effectively doubled its population for the day! Not even the Convention and Visitors Bureau has done that! The proximity to Santa Fe brought out the local and Albuquerque media and well as the national press corps covering the campaign. Everyone I spoke to from the campaign had very nice things to say about New Mexico, and I must say it was a beautiful day and wonderful setting in the town’s plaza.

The 12,000 folks, largely Hispanic and Native American, were first greeted by NM Gov Bill Richardson and others before Senator Obama took the stage about an hour late. “My bus driver got caught up in the beautiful scenery” he quipped before delivering a riveting 35 minute speech. From my perch next to ABC and NBC television cameras, I had a great view of both Obama and the crowd. He looked relaxed, sounded strong and focused, and didn’t mention Sarah Plain once! What he did talk about was the economy and the recent wave of bad news, McCain’s assertion that the economy is fundamentally strong, tax credits, mortgage interest, jump starting the economy, restoring opportunity in America, education, tax cuts, health care and jobs. He covered a lot of territory, but one comment really stood out — “Destiny is not writen for us, destiny is written BY us…” Catchy. But more than that Obama seemed aware of where he was, who he was talking to, and what the issues were…very specific to time and place. And since it’s increasing clear that New Mexico is becoming an important swing state, Governor Richardson told the crowd that he’d deliver New Mexico to Obama….all 102%!!

Search Engine Strategies – Does it Really Work?

Nolan Apostle – Producer, Tech and Associate Editor
Event City Live, Event City TV & Event City Creative Magazine

April 16th, 2008

Yesterday marked the opening day of the Search Engine Strategies Conference & Expo (SES) at the San Jose Convention Center in San Jose California. It is the 10th year for this eye-opening convention that is certainly becoming a “monster” show in the World of Search Engine management. I’ve had the opportunity to cover the show for a few years and some of your have responded to some of what I have written about the technical aspects of Search Engine marketing and how to optimize your ROI using this technology. It all seems good and some of your have even found out that this stuff really does work. So we will take a look at that.

More on that in a minute, first a little bit about this show – SES offers a diverse array of learning tools and networking opportunities for all attendees no matter who or what you do- well just as long as you are using the Internet; and if you’re not (yeah I know you heard this before) what’s the matter with you man, not using the Internet and you’re in business- you must be nuts!! In all seriousness this is the show to attend to learn all about bringing customers to YOU and to find out if and how this stuff really works. No matter what aspect of the Events & Creative Industries you come from, SES is a must attend for your future online business development and marketing efforts.

There are over 70 sessions (as often as things change in this industry 80% of them have new agendas) that will cover everything that is search-related, from very simple to extremely completx. There are numerous networking parties including the famous Google Dance and Search Bash. This event will showcase the largest concentration of successful internet and high-tech companies in the world.

If you are involved in marketing (both Events as well as your business or company), web development, are a manager, program designer, planner, executive decision makers, high profile clients or projects, or you’re a newbie and want to learn as much as possible in a short amount of time then by all means you need to attend SES.

I had the opportunity cover one of the most basic conferences last year on how to maximize your business ROI using Search Engine Optimization tricks. After I wrote the piece I put all my notes away, I was done. Then a few months later I came across my notes, so I decided to try them out. Within days, yes DAYS after applying many of the tricks I learned and shared with our readers we saw a major change in our page views. In the next few months we experienced much more traffic than we could imagine almost all of it from Search Results (83%), and this traffic showed up in different areas, both in our Alpha and Beta test areas too.

To answer the question, “Does it Really Work”, of course it does, otherwise this wouldn’t be such a large industry as it is. Search Engine Marketing (SEM) opportunities, including Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Paid Search advertising, in addition to staying informed of the latest industry, tools, and algorithm developments and solutions. This is the one event of the year you do not want to miss.

Below the Line goes to Las Vegas

Hey, it’s CES! World-wide coming together, the International Consumer Electronics Show and Event City is in the thick of it. From Mobile Technology, Home Electronics, Audio, Digital Imaging and Wireless, there are many areas of convergance that relate to Event City readers and Event Planners, Corporate Buyers and Travel professionals. I know that the film production area is very interested in Wireless, networking, and of course all areas of image capture. Think about what’s used on a film set everyday: image and display technology, wireless transmissions, digital photography, audio, video and of course film. So ok, CES might not go into film, but in ALL other areas! We will show you what’s new and interesting over the next few days. Additionally, we’ll be looking at products for our newly launched Event City Emporium. I, as Mobile Mike, will have my trusty DVR (digital voice recorder) and digital camera to bring you interviews and news from the various CES locations…and maybe even a party or two. You’ll get a first hand glimpse at some of the “behind the scenes” action starting as early as Saturday Jan. 5th!!

This show brings out the stars, and folks like Yoko One (on the John Lennon tour bus), Kevin Cosner, Mary J. Blige, Michael Douglas, all will be on hand at the Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas. We will also cover the Bill Gates Keynote on Sunday. We’re talking January 6th to the 10th, so keep your eyes on our show- the Event City show if you can’t go and we’ll put you in the midst of the action. See you in Vegas!
